“Los Evangelistas are a Granada indie rock supergroup formed in 2011 by members of Los Planetas and Lagartija Nick with the sole purpose of honoring the music of the late great flamenco cantaor Enrique Morente. Morente was, of course, an instrumental figure in bringing flamenco and avant-garde rock together, so a tribute like this is as fitting as it is rewarding. Los Evangelistas transport Morente’s compositions to gothindustrialnoise rock territory with stunning results, the existential anguish of flamenco coming through in solemn, dirge-like waves of feedback and distortion.
