I really love the original DLS, one of the coolest sounding d’n’b records I’ve heard, with its use of samples and production being really cool sounding and seamless. So, in celebration of that album’s 5 year anniversary, I was excited to see what a possible remake would sound like, seeing how Cynthoni is a more laid back, subdued equivalent in comparison. And it’s obvious, seeing how both these albums were made in different headspace’s, that this would be quite different than the OG record.

It’s a lot more focused on the production side of things, pretty much disregarding a lot of the samples used in the original, and I honestly think it’s a good trade. Granted, I still think I prefer the original over this, but I think this version is able to justify its existence and makes for some pretty cool moments that transform the original source material in a cool way. Highlights for me was the “Yandere Complex” and “Lexapro Delerium” remakes, which really transform their original counterparts in a really great way. But yeah, a few tracks don’t really work for me, and kinda drag out in a way that just kinda bores me, but apart from those, this album manages to make for a fun time, and a cool stepping stone for Cynthoni going forward. Here’s to hoping we get more original material and Cynthoni manages to lock the fuck in.
