“Bubblegum lounge-pop of the yummiest order. Jewel after jewel after jewel. It’s one of those albums where the first time I listened to it I kept thinking, ‘It’s gotta start falling off now…yup, any song now…aaaaany minute now…’ and it never did. Good vibes only! Pizzicato Five were the project of two multi-instrumentalist DJs, Yasuharu Konishi (the only constant member) and Keitaro Takanami, with singer Maki Nomiya joining on this album as frontwoman. Basically they took their love of ’60s and ‘70s American pop, yé-yé, bossa nova, even some adult contemporary fog, and worked out that admiration through songwriting and sampling to essentially update the mid-‘60s modernist lounge-pop aesthetic for the vibes of go-go Tokyo in the early-‘90s.” - LimedIBagels, RYM
